For 20+ years, I have helped nonprofit and public sector agencies to work for social change. How can I support your organization?
Popular Education: I provide popular education training to diverse community leaders, non-profit staff, and government employees. Popular education affirms that everyone has knowledge, whether it comes from formal education or the “university of life”. My role as a facilitator is to create spaces for people to share their knowledge and wisdom and critically reflect on their lived realities so that we can work together to create change.
Community Health Workers: In Oregon, I have trained over 450 Community Health Workers (CHW) for state certification. I co-led culturally-specific CHW trainings in partnership with community partners and members of the Arabic-speaking, African immigrant and refugee, Asian, Black and African American, Native American, Pacific Islander, Latinx, and Russian-speaking communities.
I co-authored the Oregon Health Authority approved "We Are Health" CHW training curriculum and the "Boston University Community Health Workers in HIV Continuum of Care" curriculum. Additionally, I have co-developed and facilitated training for CHWs on topics related to children's exposure to violence, understanding violence as a public health issue, tobacco cessation and asthma self-management.
Public Health: I have over 10 years of experience working to end health inequities within the public health arena. I provide technical assistance on community partnerships and engagement to public health programs.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: I have taught courses on diversity, social justice, and cultural humility to social work students. I have co-convened communities of practice for anti-racist White folks within government and nonprofit sectors. Throughout my career, I have worked with diverse teams to support culturally-specific communities.
Community Organizing: Through paid and volunteer work, I have been an advocate for racial, economic, and climate justice and peace-building for 20 years.
Education: I have a B.A. in Peace Studies from Whitworth University and Master's in Social Work from Portland State University.
